Advanced Placement ADVANCED PLACEMENT

What does the AP Program do for Concordia?

The program provides:

  • conferences for teachers
  • curricular materials
  • research to enhance quality education

Students have the opportunity to earn:

  • college credit
  • college placement
  • or both for qualifying AP exam grades

CLHS currently offers:

  • AP English IV
  • AP Government
  • AP Biology
  • AP Calculus
  • AP Statistics
  • AP Art IV
  • AP Spanish IV


How Valuable is AP?  

  • Gives opportunity to take college level courses in high school
  • Allows for study of subjects in greater depth and detail 
  • Helps push students intellectually to commit to excellence
  • Teaches skills that lead to success in college 
  • Improves chances of getting into a competitive college 
  • Gives a head start in earning college credits 
  • Helps improve confidence to succeed in college 
  • Helps to gain a clearer idea of future plans in college studies


AP Exams--Put your knowledge to the test 

  • Provide students a standardized measure of what they've accomplished 
  • Are an essential part of the AP program 
  • Allow students to experience a college-level exam while in high school 
  • Are a good investment ($87) 
  • Allow students opportunity to earn AP Scholar Awards (a National program)


AP Credit and Placement Policies

  • Colleges determine the nature for awarding advanced placement, credit or both.
  • Search schools and learn about each college's AP policy for granting credit. 


Current Requirements for Participation in the AP Program at CLHS

To initially qualify for Honors, Pre-AP, and AP courses:  

  • An "A" (93) average in current subject area
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Departmental approval

To qualify for additional Honors, Pre-AP, and AP courses: 

  • A "B" (85) average in the current subject area
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Departmental approval

To qualify for additional AP courses (junior to senior year):  

  • An 80 average in the current subject area 
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher  
  • Departmental approval


Classroom Expectations

Current policy on # of grades/quarter for all classes: (On-level, Honors, Pre-AP)

  • 2 daily grades/week + 3 major grades which includes tests, projects, or papers=21

Current policy on # of grades/quarter for AP courses only:

  • 1 daily grade/week + 3 major grades which includes tests, projects, or papers=12
